Education:
I am looking to change my Course / University. What should I do?
Changing your course or university in Australia is possible — but it’s important to follow the correct steps to avoid visa issues and academic disruptions.
Here’s what you should do: 1. Speak with a Qualified Education Counsellor (Like GESC)
Our team will review your current situation, understand your goals, and help you explore better course or university options that align with your interests, career plans, and visa conditions.
2. Check Your Visa Conditions
If you're on a student visa, changing your course or institution can affect your visa status. We’ll help you understand any implications and make sure you're staying compliant with Australian immigration rules.
3. Get Official Release (If Required)
If you’ve completed less than 6 months of study at your current institution, you’ll need a formal release letter to transfer. We can assist you with the application and communication process.
Apply for the New Course or Institution
Once everything is clear, we’ll help you apply to your preferred course or university — and ensure the transition is smooth and fast. Need Help Right Now? Book a free consultation with a GESC education expert. We’ll guide you through each step and make the process stress-free.

I Want to Change My Course — What Should I Be Mindful Of?
Changing your course is possible — but it comes with some important considerations, especially if you're an international student on a student visa.
Here’s what you need to keep in mind:
1. Check Your Visa Conditions:
If you’re on a student visa (subclass 500), certain changes — especially in the first 6 months — can affect your visa compliance. You may need permission from your current provider or a release letter.
2. Clarify Your New Goals:
Make sure the new course aligns with your career path or PR plans. Changing direction without a clear goal can delay your progress or affect post-study visa options.
3. Institution Policies Matter:
Each university or college has its own process for course transfers. You’ll need to meet their academic and administrative requirements before switching.
4. Update Your CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment):
When you change courses, your old CoE will be cancelled and a new one must be issued. This is essential to keep your student visa valid.
5. Talk to a GESC Counsellor First:
We’ll assess your situation, explain your options, help you avoid visa issues, and guide you to the right course for your goals — with zero guesswork.

Migration:
Can My Partner Apply Separately for a 485 Graduate Visa?
Yes, but only if your partner meets the full eligibility criteria for the 485 visa independently — including completing a CRICOS-registered course in Australia, meeting the Australian study requirement, and holding a valid visa at the time of application.
If they were previously your dependent on a 485 visa, they cannot automatically apply as a primary applicant unless they’ve completed eligible studies themselves.

What Is My Current Points Score to Apply for PR?
Australia’s skilled migration system works on a points-based test where you need to score a minimum of 65 points to be eligible to apply for Permanent Residency (PR) through General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas.
Your points are calculated based on:
1. Age: Younger applicants score higher
2. English Language Ability: IELTS, PTE or equivalent test scores
3. Work Experience: Both in Australia and overseas
4. Educational Qualifications: Diploma, Bachelor’s, Masters, PhD
5. Australian Study Requirement: Completion of eligible courses in Australia
6. Partner Skills: If your partner also meets criteria, extra points apply
7. Other Factors: Regional study, professional year, community language skills
How to find your current points score?
At GESC, our migration experts offer a free points assessment service. We review your qualifications, experience, language skills, and other factors to give you an accurate score — plus advice on how to improve your points if needed.
Why is this important?
Your points score determines your chances of receiving an invitation to apply (ITA) for PR. The higher your score, the faster and easier it is to get PR.
